Emotional Rescue or How I Realized I'm Getting Old

So on the way back to work from lunch today I have the radio in my car set to Cool 105.7 (the iTrip for my iPod isn't working thus I'm listening to the radio again rather then burn some mix Cd's or even go down into my collection and pull something out). The Stones "Emotional Rescue" comes on and Craig Laue tells us that this song was number ten on the charts in 1980. For some reason this song hits with me today and I realize that I freaking love this song and Jimmy Fallon probably owes the Stones money for his song "Boyfriend" or what ever it was called. Any who I then realize that I haven't had my radio station tuned to Rock 108 in the car or in the work van for like close to a year. So I ask myself..."are you becoming an old guy"? I have completely shunned Rock 108 over the last year and why is that? Well the biggest reason is I don't identify with any of the music they play on there any more. That song "Lips of an Angel" could easily be one of the worst songs I have ever heard with the worst message ever put down on paper, but it's a huge hit. I don't get it. I don't get a lot of the music that's playing on the old 107.9 any more. There for awhile I was digging on 97.7 KCRR but I get sick and tired of the 70's rock after a brief amount of time. I can only handle so much guitar wanking before I'm bored and ready for something different. But Cool 105.7 that's a different story. They play a bit of the 70's wank but they play a ton of 80's music and all of it. Not just the new-wave and synth-pop but also Springsteen and Petty and all that good stuff. Not to mention there is not much of a format to it. I know in the mornings it tends to still be a little older for my taste but by 10:00 am it's rocking squarely in the music that makes me groove.

So have I become the old guy that hates the kids rock and roll and only likes his classic hits or is there just nothing in active rock radio that impresses me? I still enjoy rock music, I love bands like Strapping Young Lad and even Killswitch Engage and the Dillinger Escape Plan but these bands that aren't quite mainstream and break a lot of conventions of modern aggressive music. I also still dig the hell out of Skinny Puppy and Ministry and Nine Inch Nails for that matter but Rock 108 really doesn't play a lot of those guys, well Ministry once in awhile and Skinny Puppy yeah right. NIN gets a lot of play on there but that's because you know people still want to hear "Closer" on the radio. Any who tangent there, so the real question is am I getting old? Probably. But the Stones still rock and I love their disco area so sue me, "Emotional Rescue" and "Neighbors" rule.

On another idea, I'm now down 20.5 lbs since the last week of July. That's about 10 pounds a month or just a little over 2 lbs a week which is doctor recommend. This also means that I have reached my first goal two weeks early and have set my next goal for another 20 lbs by December 1st! I also started working out three times a week for 30 minutes a session instead of the four times a week for twenty-five minutes a session. According to all the stuff I've read that is suppose to be healthier and more beneficial in the long run. We will see how it goes. But I'm feeling really good and I'm pretty proud of myself so far. Only really 45 lbs to go until I feel like I'm at a healthy weight again.

Ash turned eight months old yesterday. We celebrated by wrastling (note the spelling, we did not wrestle we wrastled) and eating our hearts content of apples. Ash and I had a great weekend and we had so much fun playing this weekend. When I was home for lunch today I could have sworn that he said "dad" but Carrie wasn't willing to make it official so I wait some more for the coveted word. Ash and I can finally get out now that we have a car seat in my car and that helps me out a bit with coming up with ideas to keep him occupied during the day. But we didn't do much on Sunday, I had some cleaning to do and Ash was pretty content just playing at the house all day. Any who, our friend Katie Budke does an awesome job at listing a lot of milestones in her blogs about her children and I think I will do the same now.

Nicknames: Ash, Bubby, The Boy, Asser (as pronunced by Grandma Deb), Buddy
Weight & Height: Last Friday Carrie took Ash to Breast Feeding Support Group or Boob Class for short and Ash weighed in at 20 lbs 8 oz. As far as height goes I think it was a little over 26 inches at our last appointment in Iowa City.
Hair: He still doesn't have a lot of hair yet, but what is there is what I would call shades between red, brown and blond. It's kind of all over the map and in the right light it looks totally red in a different light he looks totally blond. Go figure?
Favorite Foods: This is a relatively new concept for him but I can tell you what he really doesn't like. Rice Cereal. He still despises it so we mix it with other things to make sure he gets his Iron, but the kid hates Rice Cereal with a passion. Oatmeal is a close second place on the hate level but no where near the level of Rice. He does quite enjoy Carrots, Green Beans, Peas, Apples, Bananas and Peaches. Every time I think of all the food he is going to get the line from Hellraiser pops into my head "Oh Christie we have such sights to show you".
Favorite Drink: This would have to still be his milk. I won't go into much more detail than that, but he does love his milk. He also seems to really enjoy cold water as well. He hasn't had anything else yet and I don't particularly see him getting anything else for quite awhile.
Favorite Toys: First and foremost, while I may be biased I really think his favorite toy is his Godzilla. Call me crazy but even Carrie will admit that he likes it a lot. After that it's probably his ball with all the holes in it, but he also seems to really like his farm puzzle and his touch and feel farm animals book. You should see him giggle when he touches the lambs wool. He also thinks that Raja makes a wonderful toy and so does Raja for that matter. He also likes his toys that make sound.
Favorite Stuffed Animal: He has gone through various stages with this. First it was Frog, Duck and Bunny, now though I think it's his new stuffed dog or perhaps lamb. Lamb may be default though since I've been using it to keep him happy and occupied while I change his diaper which is becoming and increasingly difficult task.
Favorite Person: I think Mommy is his favorite person, see favorite drink above and little explanation is needed.
Bedtime: First off we need to be more consistent about this but it's hard when Carrie doesn't get home from work until 8:30 pm on the weekends but right now we try and put him down during the week anywhere from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm depending on the night and weekends it's usually between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
Wake-Up Time: Ash wakes up any where between 6:00 am and 7:00 am. This can very to an extent but in between those hours your most likely for him to wake up.
Naps: Here is what a regular weekend is for me with the naps. Ash and I get up around 6:15 and we play and goof off tell about 8:15 am and then I put him down for his nap. He will usually wake up around 10:00 am and then we will play or do something until 1:00 or after and then I will put him down around 1:00 or 1:30 and he will sleep until 3:30 pm give or take. Then it's a bottle and playing until about 5:00 pm and then down for another nap that usually lasts tell around 6:30 or 7:00 then supper a bath maybe and then to bed when mom gets home. So about three two hour naps a day for me.
What He's Saying: Right now he is still saying Agee as well at Tah (very strong on the T and breathy on the ah) he also likes to yell, well holler at the dog actually, and just make sounds.
Latest Accomplishment: The whole crawling, standing up, sitting back down and chasing objects have been his biggest accomplishments through the last few months and he just keeps getting better and better at it, might I also add faster as well!
Likes: Music, Dancing, Playing Soccer, "Walking", Being Tickled, Mouths, Teeth, Hugs and Tissies (Kissies pronounced by his mother), being wrastled, upside down baby, wall plug ins.
Dislikes: Diaper changing, sometimes going down for a nap, getting his faced washed, Rice Cereal.
What gets said most often about Asher: He is the cutest baby ever. Is he always this happy?
Best Known For: Being so darn happy.
Health: Except for Asher's Renal Vascular Stenosis which has been documented quite well on this here blog, he is very healthy. Gaining weight appropriately and hitting all of his marks on time and even a little early. No teeth yet though.
How He's Like His Daddy: Well most of the world doesn't ever get to see it, Ash shares one of my lesser traits and that is a temper. When he gets angry he gets angry and he lets you know all about it. Especially when he gets frustrated. He is just like me in that respect.
How He's Like His Mommy: Ash and Carrie both love to be snuggled and close. Ash loves to be played with and held and just to be close and his mom is the exact same way.
